On February 19, 2006, 65 Mexican miners lost their lives in a gas explosion in the Pasta de Conchos mine in Coahuila, Mexico. Four years later, only two of the 65 miners' bodies have been recovered. Mexico's National Human Rights Commission has established that even though officials from the federal Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare had previously documented several violations of safety and sanitary conditions in the mine, owned by Grupo México, they failed to act to ensure that the company remedy this situation.

María Trinidad Cantú Cortés on behalf of the miners' families and Andrés Díaz, a lawyer with the Miguel Agustin Pro Juarez Human Rights Center, will be in Washington, DC to present a petition on the case before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Please join us for a discussion on the efforts of the family members to seek justice in the case and to recover the bodies of their loved ones.
