September 16, 2009: A multi-national naval force, including USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), USS Doyle (FFG 39), USCGC Mohawk (WMEC 913), the Colombian frigate ARC Independiente, the Dutch auxiliary ship HMNLS Amsterdam, and the Uruguayan frigate General Artigas, cruise in formation as part of Fuerzas Aliadas PANAMAX 2009. FA PANAMAX is an annual multi-national training exercise tailored to the defense of the Panama Canal, involving civil and military forces from 20 countries from the Caribbean, Central and South America and around the world. It is being conducted to exercise a variety of responses to any request from the Government of Panama to protect and guarantee safe passage of traffic through the Panama Canal, ensure its neutrality, and respect national sovereignty.

September 14, 2009: U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cliff Harrison briefs military personnel from several nations during a maritime boarding training exercise at Vasco Nunez de Balboa Naval Base, Panama. Harrison, also acting as a role player, works with the U.S. Coast Guard International Training Division in Yorktown, Va., and is participating in FA PANAMAX 2009. FA PANAMAX 2009 is a multinational exercise, with 20 participating countries training for the defense of the Panama Canal. More than 4,500 personnel are participating from countries in the U.S. Southern Command area of focus.

September 8, 2009: El Gobierno Nacional se permite informar a la opinion publica que durante el fin de semana fueron localizadas y decomisadas diez pruebas de vida correspondientes a miembros de la Fuerza Publica que se encuentran secuestrados desde hace mas de diez anos. Las pruebas de supervivencia fueron presentadas previamente, por razones humanitarias, ante los familiares de los militares y policias secuestrados por la organizacion narcoterrorista Farc. De la misma forma, son presentados ante el pueblo colombiano y la comunidad internacional.

September 8, 2009: A U.S. military delegate and senior police representative from Haiti listen carefully to a partner nation’s briefing regarding illicit activities in their country. Participating nations discussed methods on how to better deal against common threats during the first Counter Terrorism Fellowship Partnership conference in Miami, Fla., hosted by USSOCSOUTH. The conference brought together military and police representatives from approximately 16 different countries throughout the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico.

September 1, 2009: Navy Capt. David G. Wright, incoming Joint Medical Group commander, receives the company guidon from Navy Capt. Bruce C. Meneley, outgoing JMG commander at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, August 31, 2009. The JMG provides detainees at Joint Task Force Guantanamo the same level of medical care that U.S. service members receive. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations.
