Wasp mulitipurpose amphibious assault ship for deck landing qualification training Dec. 7, 2009. Forty-six U.S. Army aircrew members conducted the training with the Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters, staying aboard the Wasp while underway in the Caribbean Sea. | December 2, 2009: U.S Embassy and Costa Rican officials inaugurate a new health clinic in Talamanca Nov. 24, constructed as part of a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored humanitarian assistance project. Approved in 2006, the $462,000 project was completed by local contractors who began construction of the new medical facility September 2008. The 984 square-foot clinic includes a waiting room, emergency room, records room, consultations room, immunizations area, lavatories, kitchen and storage area. | December 1, 2009: SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras - Children and base volunteers sit and play with toys while listening to some Christmas carols Dec. 1 in front of the base Christmas tree near Building B-202. The children were brought on base for the tree-lighting ceremony. Chris Gehler, Joint Task Force-Bravo commander, and two children from a local orphanage press the plunger and light the base Christmas tree near Building B-202 Dec. 1. More than 40 children from a local orphanage were brought on base for the ceremony. | November 30, 2009: BELIZE CITY, Belize (Nov. 24, 2009) - Lt. Col. Chris Eldridge, Chief United States Military Liaison Officer in Belize, presents shirts emblazoned with the U.S. and Belizean national flags to Raineldo Guerrero (right), the Port of Belize chief executive officer, and Franzine Waight (center), the Port of Belize deputy CEO, as thanks for their role in helping transport approximately 39,000 pounds of donated school and medical supplies from Project Handclasp. The supplies were transported aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1) to Belize City, Belize for their ceremonial turnover to the Belizean government and various non-governmental organizations. Wasp is currently deployed on Southern Partnership Station-Amphib with Destroyer Squadron 40 and embarked Security Cooperation Marine Air-Ground Task Force. | November 25, 2009: OCHO RIOS, Jamaica (Nov. 19, 2009) - Master-at-Arms 3rd Class Jacob Shaw, assigned to USS Wasp (LHD 1), demonstrates how to properly search a vehicle with a mirror and flashlight to members of the Jamaican Defense Forces Coast Guard at Reynolds Pier in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Nov. 19, 2009, as part of an effort to improve regional security through military to military training. Wasp is currently deployed on Southern Partnership Station-Amphib with Destroyer Squadron 40 and embarked Security Cooperation Marine Air Ground Task Force. Southern Partnership Station is part of the Partnership of the Americas Maritime Strategy that focuses on building interoperability and cooperation in the region to meet common challenges.
