| December 2, 2009: U.S Embassy and Costa Rican officials inaugurate a new health clinic in Talamanca Nov. 24, constructed as part of a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored humanitarian assistance project. Approved in 2006, the $462,000 project was completed by local contractors who began construction of the new medical facility September 2008. The 984 square-foot clinic includes a waiting room, emergency room, records room, consultations room, immunizations area, lavatories, kitchen and storage area. | September 8, 2009: A U.S. military delegate and senior police representative from Haiti listen carefully to a partner nation’s briefing regarding illicit activities in their country. Participating nations discussed methods on how to better deal against common threats during the first Counter Terrorism Fellowship Partnership conference in Miami, Fla., hosted by USSOCSOUTH. The conference brought together military and police representatives from approximately 16 different countries throughout the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. | May 5, 2009: GOLFITO, Costa Rica (April 24, 2009) -- Sailors from USS Carr (FFG 52) distribute dontated medical and hygiene products to students at the Residencial Urena, an elementary school of ninety students in Golfito. Carr visited Costa Rica in support of Theater Security Cooperation Initiatives, which promote positive relationships between the United States and nations around the region. USS Carr (FFG 52), home ported in Norfolk, Va., is supporting counter illicit trafficking operations in the Eastern Pacific. | April 27, 2009: Residents of Silencio, Costa Rica, wave to a helicopter carrying members of the New Mexico Army National Guard Medical Detachment and Air Force South, which provided a full day of health-care services, April 23, 2009. | April 22, 2009: SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (April 16, 2009) – Officials discuss the start of the U.S. Southern Command-sponsored regional disaster relief exercise known as Fuerzas Aliadas Humanitarias (FAHUM) during a press conference in San Jose.
