The Trial of Fujimori in Comparative Perspective

Thursday, October 2, 2008
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
Washington, D.C.
1779 Massachusetts Ave. NW - Washington, DC Tel.: 202-483-7600

This public one-day conference will provide a forum for scholars, activists, and policymakers to analyze the Fujimori trial and other human rights trials in Latin America, with a view to assessing their significance for efforts to achieve accountability for past human rights violations. Timed to take place shortly before the U.S. presidential elections, the conference is aimed at contributing to debate about how U.S. policy can support rule of law, accountability and democratic governance in Latin America. It will also provide an opportunity to highlight the efforts of Latin American civil society to promote justice and accountability through the judicial process and the ways in which this process contributes to democratic consolidation.
